Theme Thursday: Teacher's Pet

When I go to India this summer, I'm going to miss my family.
I'm also going to miss my very old dog.
Her name is Pretty.

She is a Chihuahua, mixed with something else.
My Partner rescued her as a young pup at the animal shelter almost 20 years ago. I've had the pleasure of living with him and her for the past 12 years now.
There's something painfully poignant about elderly pets.
We care for them as babies.

Namaste!

Is she a yapper?

Brian, Kris, thanks for visiting the blog. My dog basically sleeps all day. She used to be an excellent guard dog, but she is now deaf.

Well they give us so much joy in their younger days, it only seems right to care for them when they age. Our older dog died a couple of weeks ago. Ate a small bone, his last meal, laid down replete, gave two sighs and passed away at 18 years of age. A good life lived!

Baino,
Your Dog had a GOOD long life. God bless him and your family! I hope my old dog will die peacefully here at home. I don't want her to suffer...

Hi Harnett,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I must fly over to your blog now...

Hi bb - "The Ancient One" is so adorable I just want to hug her and smooch her little precious nose. Pets are our fur-kids and they are family. To be blessed to have her this long is amazing - enjoy every special moment. When my cat, Benjamin passed away, I was a mess for months - even though we had EmmaLou as a young pup at that time - the loss was so substantial - so hug her and kiss her often. Ok now I have to go love all over EmmaLou - good thing she went to groomer yesterday. LOL

Oh, leaving her must be breaking your heart. But Baino is right. What a long life for a dog!

We have two cats. Our last cat, who was an indoor-only cat, lived to be 20. I think that's more common among cats.

Pretty looks like a wise dog. Does she tweet? I'd bet she'd have lots of life lessons to share with the Twitterverse--sort of a Dog's Last Lecture-y thing....
