Ugh. Here we go again...

My mother's reaction to her chemotherapy has taken a sudden nose dive. On Mother's Day she had to be hosptialized due to the ill-effects of the chemo.

Instead of killing the little bit of cancer left in her body, it was killing her.

It was then that I had to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the 2011 Seminar.
Why?
I want someone else to be selected to go in my place. 
*big sigh* 

Now I'm starting to see similarities with family cancer-care and with my dream to someday visit India on a Fulbright-Hays Seminar.

They are both long journeys, in a way...

And with ANY long journey, I have to:

• stay organized;
• stay informed;
• accept the fact that there is no straight and simple path;
• never ever assume anything; and
• always expect the unexpected.

I want to thank my friends and colleagues for your prayers and kind wishes.

Back in 2007, I traveled to India for the very first time. Prior to my trip, I was reading this big fat book Lonely Planet India (it weighs 2 pounds and has 1140 pages!). As a solo traveler, I thought it would come in handy.
Yeah, right.
At the very last minute I decided to not bring it because it was just too heavy and too big for my purse.

Now, I plan to return to India this July 2011.

This time, I'm bringing with me a 2010 edition of Lonely Planet India.

It won't be the big clunky version because it's an ebook!

At first I didn't care for ebooks.

The first ebooks I bought were titles for technical reading (you know, books about education and librarianship). It was awful because I could not scribble notes, and it was hard to reread the text. 

Then I realized that ebooks are pretty cool for reading titles other than technical reading.

And the best part of reading ebooks is that you can ditch the reading glasses and enlarge the text.

Looking Ahead to Summer 2011

Welcome back old friends and hello new friends. 
I've been blessed, once again, with a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship. 
Last year I gave up my Scholarship to stay home and care for my mother,who was diagnosed with advanced cancer.
Thankfully, she has come a long ways with her treatment.

Once you choose hope, anything's possible.
